The General Manager oversees all policies and procedures of their location as it pertains to customer experience, P & L management, employee safety, and inventory management support, all in an effort to drive sales and promote company culture. Evaluating store trends while maintaining a high standard of product knowledge and property appearance is essential to the success of daily operations. Store success will be accomplished through routine coordination and communication between the store’s Department Managers, the Senior Director of Store Operations, and the corporate office.

Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice. • Execution of all day-to-day store operations for front-end store management, shipping and receiving practices and all administrative functions through the communication and implementation of company policy and procedures • Maintain continual communication with the Assistant General Managers to effectively and efficiently receive deliveries, coordinate employee scheduling, conduct floor moves and displays and recruit new staff based on seasonal store needs • Oversee the responsibilities and daily actions of department managers including timely and effective scheduling, communication of informed purchase recommendations based on store trends and customer needs as well as escalating employee relation issues as needed • Establish and maintain positive customer experience and employee relations through daily store walkthroughs, departmental meetings, training and development opportunities, and interactions with customers related to product needs and inquires • Coordinate internal and external product deliveries with the Merchandising and Operations team to replenish store inventory levels effectively and efficiently • Provide leadership, coaching and training for all store management and associates as needed, addressing areas of performance management and disciplinary issues in a timely and effective manner • Review financial reports including daily and weekly sales reports, open purchase orders, and the annual budget, while completing weekly payroll and updating annual capital expenditure requests • Support the movement of inventory by supporting department managers and associates in the loading and unloading of products • Support company goals in the implementation of new projects, directives and policies as directed by the Senior Director of Store Operations • Complete all additional tasks as assigned by Senior Management COMPETENCIES • Leadership and Coaching • Written and Verbal Communication • Maintenance of Productive Team Relationships • Strong Work Ethic • Well Organized • Problem Solving Skills • Project Management PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in retail store management required. Associates degree or higher in business or management related studies preferred. Prior experience in the horticultural, garden center or high-volume retail preferred.
