Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, design oversight, execution, and closeout of assigned projects within an established budget and schedule.

The incumbent will lead all phases of a project, with little to no supervision to execute on time, within budget and to the quality specified.

Responsible for collecting and analyzing data on maintenance repairs to the equipment and facility, seeking opportunities to improve reliability of the assets, creating preventative maintenance plans, promoting the detection of equipment failures through predictive maintenance, condition-based monitoring, and serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) 

This individual should be self-driven to complete assigned tasks ahead of expectations with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines

  • Willing and able to work in a variety of areas in an industrial manufacturing environment, working both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
  • Willing and able to work extra hours during project start-ups, including occasional weekend work, and to be available by phone 24/7 to support maintenance and operations as needed.
  • Initiates and develops equipment and system designs. Takes equipment and systems from concept through to commissioning and testing.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products including but not limited to HVAC, Boilers, heat exchangers, heating Ovens, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, Compressed air, Water treatment, fire extinguishing systems, piping and vessel systems, and others.
  • May run experiments and tests to aid in the development of processing systems. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Translate Design Engineering data into applicable processes.
  • Assist, as required, Process Engineering in reviewing customer special requirements and generate appropriate processes and methods to successfully accommodate and implement.
  • Trouble-shoot and resolve manufacturing operating problems. Perform technical evaluations of vendors and equipment.
  • Perform technical evaluations of vendors and equipment. Generate technical and economic justifications for the implementation of new processes, methods, and equipment.
  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing.
  • Generates and is fully conversant with Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Data Sheets.
  • Assists in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, including supervision of designers in document development in accordance with approved procedures, processes and design requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to engineering disciplines.
  • Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.
  • Performs checking to ensure accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.
  • Performs independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of plant changes and design modifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s Degree a plus.
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience in Manufacturing and industrial equipment, engineering, design, commissioning Testing, with four (4) more years’ experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to excel as an individual contributor and in cooperative work teams
  • Ability to advance technical skills through study and practical application
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient office computer skills including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD.
  • Willing and able to work extra hours during project start-ups, including occasional weekend work, and to be available by phone 24/7 to support maintenance and operations as needed.
  • Ability to read all types of engineering plan drawings.
  • Vibration database and equipment monitoring experience.
  • Willing to complete additional training if necessary, as needed.
