Director of Engineering

The Director of Engineering will lead the Engineering and R&D teams to design, refine, test, and optimize our modular home product line, with the goal of building high-quality, architecturally interesting homes from the most efficient and lean processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Application of Engineering and Construction Knowledge:
    • Develop complete structural design of various structural systems using the appropriate building and material codes. These systems are typically Structural and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for wood frame Modular Single and Multi-family Homes.
    • Develop design concepts and recommend appropriate structural support and related systems.
    • Evaluate existing structural designs and make design recommendations and design decisions.
  • Product Design:
    • Analysis: Prepares clear, complete, and concise calculations, including software analysis models, and provides the appropriate level of connection design as required.
    • Coordinates work with other disciplines. Performs interdisciplinary coordination checks to minimize deficiencies, errors, and omissions in engineering deliverables.
    • Prepares design criteria for all assigned projects and assures compliance with project and client requirements.
    • Responsible for producing well-organized structural engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications.
    • Participates in bid reviews when requested.
  • Production Support:
    • Reviews shop drawings and submittals for specification compliance in a timely manner.
    • Participates in appropriate pre-production and preparatory meetings.
    • Performs site visits and prepares observation and follow-up reports documenting progress and deficiencies.
    • Reviews all structural-related testing and inspection reports.
    • Responds to all RFP’s and provides production and construction support as required.
  • Project Planning and Support:
    • Provides scope definition, budget, and schedule estimates for proposal development.
    • Monitors assigned project progress and keeps appraised of deadlines and advises the technical lead on resource needs to meet project deadlines.
  • Engineering Leadership:
    • Leads team that creates structural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) drawings for modular single and multi-family homes.
    • Serves as the structural engineering subject matter expert in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods.
    • Mentors’ junior engineers and designers to help with professional development.
    • Oversee the Research and Development and Process Engineering teams.
    • Collaborate with other teams within and outside the Engineering team to ensure clients’ needs and internal deadlines are met.
    • Maintain accurate, clear, and concise project documentation and design data.
    • Develop and execute the Engineering and R&D team Strategic Deployment process and Annual Operating Plan.
    • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering Required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Licensed Structural Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years’ experience leading engineering and architecture teams
  • Proficiency with Revit
  • Proficiency in creating and reading blueprints
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Ability to build, develop and mentor a team
  • Self-Starter and able to manage across multiple locations

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • In-Person (this position cannot be performed remotely).
  • This role requires signing a confidentiality agreement, intellectual property rights agreement, and non-compete and non-disclosure agreement.
  • Background check results that meet Fading West’s standards.
  • Reference check that speaks to the positive character of the applicant.
  • May be required to regularly stand, sit, or walk for long periods of time, lift, or carry more than 50 pounds, climb/balance on stairs or ladders, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Must be competent and comfortable in basic computer skills and navigating modern technology.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary Rate Range: $130,000.00 to $150,000 per year

    (Rate commensurate with experience)
  • Fading West rigorously adheres to Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, C.R.S. § 8-5-201(1)
  • Relocation assistance is available for this position.
